Table Plastic
I’ve been wanting to share this sculptural idea for years now. It’s in response to how apparently 90% of all the earth’s salt contains microplastics.
Inside the salt grinder are what are known as mermaid tears. These are plastic pellets that are mostly remnants of the negative shape from holes for where screws in children’s plastic toys, etc come from.
I collected them from Porthtowan beach recently, where I must have collected about 200 in a metre radius in a short time period.
The amount in the grinder refers to the 10% that is uncontaminated.
