Dunce Racist

I’ve had this idea in mind for ages now. To tie together several British tropes. From light hearted fun of being pissed and putting a traffic cone on a statue’s head, to school children being made to wear a dunce cap as a form of public humiliation, used to punish students who were considered slow learners, disruptive, or not paying attention in class.

The statue here is of George Somers in Lyme Regis. He was the “founder” of Bermuda and saved several colonialists from death by coming to their aid with food. He died there in 1610, and the first slaves were brought there in 1616.

I used a website called: www.toppletheracists.org to find out where former slave owner statues, plaques, road names, etc still exist in the UK. I wanted to show how dumb I think racism is and how I feel that there’s a massive lack of accountability and teaching of anything other than white culture or colonialist history within the school system.
